| Q. | What is the difference between embroidery and screen printing? |
| A. | Embroidery is the process of decorating an item by sewing a design onto it in colored thread. The design must be digitized to run on an embroidery machine. Pricing is based on the stitch count, which is determined by the size and complexity of your design. Embroidery is generally more expensive per unit than screen printing but you can order much smaller quantities. Embroidery has more upscale appeal than screen printing, making it the most popular choice for corporate apparel like golf shirts, denim and oxford shirts. You can embroidery on items like 6-panel caps, knit caps, bags, towels and polar fleece that can’t be screen printed. It’s also more economical for small designs with a lot of colors. Screen printing is the process of decorating an item by printing a design in ink, one color as a time, through a tight mesh screen. Screen printing and silk screening are the same thing. Pricing is based on the number of colors in your design. Printing on dark colored items is more expensive because it requires a white base coat in most cases. The size of the design doesn’t affect the cost, so it’s an economical choice for large designs like you find on t-shirts and jackets. Fine detail and small letters are no problem. Designs with 4 or more colors can get expensive, especially on dark colored garments. You can’t screen print on polar fleece, knit caps, 6 panel caps or most towels. There are setup charges per color and normally a minimum opening order of 36 pieces or more depending on the number of colors in the design. |

| Q. | How do I get my logo on shirts or caps? |
| A. | First, we need a copy of your artwork. We can work with faxes, printed copy, or with artwork in the form of electronic files such as eps, tif, jpg or bmp. From this we write a computer program of the embroidery design. This process is called "digitizing". This is a program that tells the embroidery machine how to sew out your design. You are then sent a copy of the "sewout" for your approval. Upon approval your garments will be prepared and sent to you. With the design on file, reorders can be handled promptly. |
